Sprint launches the LG Viper

To all our eco-friendly readers we have good news. The LG Viper soon to be released on Sprint’s network is packed with a ton of eco-friendly features. Don’t stray too far if you’re not one for the environment, because this phone is also budget friendly. It will be available for under $100 on Sprint.com and the likes of Best Buy and RadioShack. The phone with a two-year contract will set you back $99.99 but to entice you even more they will have a $50 mail-in-rebate via a reward  card. The LG Viper will be available to all for pre-order starting Thursday, April 12th.

This smart phone will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 1 GB of RAM, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor a 4 GB card microSD slot and will support upwards to 32GB. The display will be a 4-inch touchscreen with a Corning Gorilla Glass screen protector. The cameras are a rear facing 5MP with flash and a VGA front facing. This is also a 4G LTE capable phone with mobile hotspot. A great highlight is embedded (NFC) Near Field Communication, this will allow you to access features such as Google Wallet so you can make payments at participating retailers.

This is the third device that Sprint and LG have launched with sustainability in mind.  There first was in 2010 with LG Remarq and earlier this year the LG Rumor Reflex. Sprint seems to be taking an active role in the eco- friendly space. Here are some of the features of the LG Viper that hit high marks in the sustainability department. The device is ULE Platinum Certified, the highest level of environmental performance. The casing is made of 50% recycled plastics. It is RoHS compliant, meaning it is free from potentially hazardous materials such as PVC, halogens and mercury. The packaging also contains up to 87% post consumer paper, uses soy ink, made of glueless construction and is 100% recyclable. These are just a few that I am listing , it is great to see that companies are taking an active role in this eco-movement.

The launch of LG Viper will also introduce LG’s “Life’s Good Fairytales” app, a family oriented application to engage parents and kids on creating cool storyboards involving photos sounds and  and stories. The app will be free for all LG Viper owners and $0.99 on Google play on Friday, April 27. Click here for more on the LG Viper.
