AT&T Gets The ASUS PadFone X On June 6th!

You might remember the PadFone X from the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, a device made by ASUS that was announced for AT&T. Since then we have gotten some official specifications, a pre-registraion page, and finally a release date. But keep in mind that the market has changed quite a bit since January, HTC, LG, and Samsung all have announced there respective flagship devices. The PadFone X from ASUS combines a smartphone with a tablet dock, which means a unique device.

It will cost $199.99 with a 2-year contract, $22.92 per month with AT&T Next 18, and for $29.80 for AT&T Next 12. It will be available both online and in AT&T retail stores on June 6th 2014. The PadFone X is a smartphone that docks into the PadFone Station and once docked it becomes a 9-inch HD tablet. Allowing you to switch to a screen size that might work better for you depending on what you are doing. The PadFone X features a 5-inch Full HD display, plus with ASUS Dynamic Display when it is docked the applications will be resized for the 9-inch tablet like display. The smartphone feature dual front speakers and is portable.

For a camera, you get a 13 megapixel  f/2.0 aperture PixelMaster lens. It has a unique LowLight Mode which can increase the quality of photos at night and has a Burst Mode as well. It will be running on AT&T’s nationwide 4G LTE network. The PadFone Station will charge the PadFone X when docked. You get 16GB of internal storage on the PadFone X and you can expand the storage via micro SD card. For a smooth experience with Android 4.4 KitKat, you get a 2.3GHz quad core processor.

In terms of accessories, the PadFone X Folio Bundle comes with several protective accessories for both the PadFone Station and the PadFone X. It will be available in either blue or white and the covers are made out of polypolyurethane to protect against drops, plus the inside is lined with a microfiber material. For those looking to be more productive, the PadFone X Mobile Dock is Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad. It connects to the devices via Bluetooth 3.0 and has a 450mAh battery. PadFone X combines both the smartphone and ASUS PadFone Station into an innovative package with seamless transitions that lets you choose between two screen sizes dependent on the task at hand.

Smartphone and Tablet-like Experience in One

PadFone X is a 5-inch full HD Android 4.4 (KitKat) smartphone that docks into the included PadFone Station to transform into a 9-inch full HD tablet-like experience, allowing you to select the optimal display experience at any time – whether watching a video at the kitchen table or taking a call on the road. Powered by ASUS DynamicDisplay technology, when docked, apps running on the smartphone are seamlessly resized to fit the ASUS PadFone Station’s larger display. PadFone X features a thin and light design with dual front speakers, which includes ASUS SonicMaster technology to deliver a full and immersive audio experience.

State-of-the-Art Camera

A 13 megapixel, f/2.0 aperture PixelMaster camera on the PadFone X allows you to capture stunning photographs that rival or surpass those taken by dedicated digital cameras. The camera’s LowLight Mode significantly increases camera performance during nighttime and in poorly lit scenes. By merging adjacent pixels, the camera increases light sensitivity by and, resulting in clear and bright low-light shots without the need for a flash. Turbo Burst Mode makes it easier to seize that perfect moment by enabling the camera to capture photos at up to 35 frames per second.

State-of-the-Art Technologies

PadFone X marks the latest in a series of collaborations between ASUS and AT&T. The companies started working together in 2012 with the launch of VivoTab RT and continued through 2013 with the MeMO Pad FHD 10 LTE. Additional features include:

  • Smooth and Responsive Performance – Powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 2.3GHz quad-core CPU, PadFone X offers a smooth and responsive performance.
  • Large Storage Capacity – 16GB of on-board storage and a Micro SD slot supporting up to 64GB of additional storage ensures that you have plenty of space to store the favorite music, movies, games and photos.
  • Maximum Charging – PadFone Station includes a large battery that charges the phone when it is is docked, providing up to two times longer battery life and allowing you to do more of the things you love for longer. It also offers Power Matters Alliance (PMA) wireless charging for a convenient and clutter-free charging experience.

Accessories for Added Device Protection

Two optional accessories are available to enhance your mobile experience. The PadFone X Mobile Dock is a custom-fit Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad that transforms PadFone X into a notebook. Precision-engineered keys and high-quality aluminum construction deliver a comfortable typing experience, and the integrated touchpad allows navigation of documents and webpages without needing to touch the screen. The Mobile Dock connects to PadFone X via Bluetooth 3.0 and includes a 450mAh battery for up to one month of use between charges.
