The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus were unveiled back on March 28th, and their launch date is coming in hot, just a few short days away on April 21st. One of the most talked about feature on these devices would be the Bixby personal assistant, which will be built into the device with a dedicated button embedded into the software.

Samsung already took a misstep with this by not having it launch with a voice in some areas, but for those customers who prefer a more proven assistant, you can’t switch to it. More precisely, the Bixby button can’t be changed or remapped. While the device has not yet fully launched and the beta versions didn’t have Bixby working, the source code proves that it can’t be changed. Meaning you can have a permanent Google Assistant button in the software or have it be customized to something else.

While I’m sure some user will be able to make this change, it puts a lot of pressure on Bixby. And Samsung will have to work hard to make sure that it works and that it competes against The Google Assistant.
