The Google Assistant might be coming to iOS devices

Google’s I/O Developer conference kicks off tomorrow, and we might have an idea what is coming. Specifically, as to what the technology giant might be bringing to iOS this year. Last year we saw the message application Allo and video calling service Duo be announced for iOS devices. And this year the popular and intuitive Google Assistant might be coming to iPhone’s and iPad’s.

Currently, the adoption of the Google Assistant is high, being that it inside of Android Nougat and found in every single Google Home, their smart speaker. And since they launch an API for their personal assistant, it appears that Google wants to make the service universal. In that, if it is available on the two main smartphone choices, Android and iOS, it might draw more developers in. And Apple is pretty tight in terms of allowing third-parties, like Google, to integrate directly with the operating system.

It would then appear that the Google Assistant would land on iOS in the form of a new application, be built into a current one, or get added to the Google Keyboard. The latter of these three scenarios would be my favorite and I think it would bring many new affordances to the users of the GBoard. Chances are it wouldn’t just come with voice interaction, but we would see a lot of focus on being able to chat with the Google Assistant if it came in this form.

The good news here is that we don’t have to wait long as the opening keynote for Google I/O 2017 kicks off this Wednesday, May 17th 2017.
