Ubisoft began it’s E3 press conference by showcasing their new Rabbids crossover game, which will feature characters from the Suepr Mario series, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.
Not only was the game introduced by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, who stated his excitement at partnering with Nintendo, but Yves brought a special guest: Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Mario series. Miyamoto presented Yves with a lifesize replica of one of the comical looking guns from the game and the two discussed their longstanding friendship as developers as well as how this game was a passion project.
Miyamoto explained that the game was being developed in Europe and would be different from the usual Mario titles, being more focused on action and strategy than than platforming. This also means that this is one of the few Mario games to developed by a company other than Nintendo.
Around 4 minutes of gameplay were show, showing the game to be an RPG/strategy type game similar to XCOM. Each character was also revealed to have a special move and an ability called “team jump” which allows one character to enhance the movement range of another. This was followed by a 2 minute trailer which revealed that, along with Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and the Rabbids based on those characters, there will, in fact, be a Rabbid Donkey Kong.
The game will be available August 29th exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
