Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish Review

Boost Mobile Unveils The Samsung Replenish! - NJTechReviews

Our friends over at Boost Mobile have sent us the Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish for us to review! Boost Mobile is starting off 2012 with yet another Android device. In 2011 they announced 3(three) android devices. The Samsung Replenish is an eco-friendly smartphone. Now, let’s get started with the full review of the Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish!

Design

The Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish features both a touch screen and a QWERTY Keyboard. It looks like a BlackBerry but, the keyboard is not as good as the BlackBerry keyboards.  On the front of the device you have the earpiece, Boost Mobile logo, touch screen, android  buttons, and the QWERTY keyboard. On the back you have the Samsung logo, a speaker, 2.0 mega-pixel camera and some aluminum at the top and bottom. The left hand side is where you can find the volume rocker. In the right hand side you have the camera button and the voice controls button. The micro USB port is on the bottom of the device. The power/sleep button and headphone jack can be found on the top of the device. The sides, top, and bottom of the device are in aluminum. As well as the Android buttons below the screen. The rest of the devices is black. The device itself is made partially with recycled plastics. So, this is the only eco-friendly phone that Boost Mobile offers. However, Samsung has made many other eco-friendly phones. Now, onto the keyboard. The keyboard on the device is not the best. I would have rather seen it without the keyboard. The keys are very small and do not stick up that much from one another. Using the function or shift keys is almost impossible. I would say if you’re a pro at small keyboards go for this phone if not, i would try another phone from Boost Mobile. Besides the keyboard the design is pretty nice overall.

Hardware

The Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish may be made partially with recycled plastics, but the hardware inside is not pre-used. Let’s start off with the screen. It features a 2.8-inch touchscreen, the colors on it are pretty good. However, Samsung has down better with there other devices. I understand that they would not put a Super AMOLED Plus HD Display on this device, but i feel that the screen could be improved with the colors and the brightness. The viewing angles with the device are great. In terms of the speed on the device, it does get hung up everyone once in a while. Samsung and Boost Mobile have not said what type of processor is inside of this device. However, i have a feeling it is probably 1GHz processor of some sort. The speeds from Boost Mobile’s network are not the fastest in the world. Keep in mind that this is a CDMA phone, however while downloading apps from the Android Market it did get hung up a little. On the back you have a 2 mega-pixel camera with flash what so ever. The camera’s quality is very poor but, i guess you could say it may sometimes get the job done. Overall, the Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish’s hardware is okay and does get the job done most of the time.

Operating System

The Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with no User Interface. I have a feeling it will not be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Operating System runs well on this device, however it does get hung up everyone in a while. In terms of pre-loaded content you have the Boost Mobile logo desktop and the quick start guide on the device. For the most part it is a very clean version of Android . In terms of pre-loaded apps you get the Google Appsuite, BoostZone, Downloads, Sprint Mobile ID, Music, My Files, Think Free Office, and more. So, they choose not to pre-load it with too many app. I think they kept it just right. Overall, the Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish’s Operating System is good.

Bottom Line

The Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish is the carriers first eco-smartphone. While, it gets the job done in certain places it does fall short in others. However, if you want an Android smartphone that has both a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard on the front of the device, than the Samsung Replenish may be for you. The Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish will be available on January 16, 2012. You can get it from Boost Mobile’s exclusive retail stores, select independent wireless dealer locations across the country, and at www.boostmobile.com. It will move into additional retail outlets in February. It will cost you $99.99, keep in mind that Boost Mobile is a no-contract carrier. You can pair it with Boost Mobiles Android Monthly Unlimited or Daily Unlimited plans. Be sure to let us know if you go out and get the Boost Mobile Samsung Replenish.
