Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Review

Our friends over at Samsung and Verizon have sent us the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for us to review! It is the thinnest 4G LTE Tablet out there and it is running on Verizon;s insanely fast 4G LTE Network. It also features a gorgeous screen, that will give you beautiful images. It may also remind you of the original Galaxy Tab for Verizon and other carriers. It was announced earlier this yes at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show and it landed on March 1 for Verizon. Now, let’s begin the full review of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7!

Design

The Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is an awesome tablet and adding to the awesomeness is that it is the thinnest 4G LTE tablet out here. It comes in at just 7.9 millimeters thick or 0.31 inches! This is insanely thin and it is not heavy at only, it weighs a mere 12 ounces and it fits very nicely into the hand. At times it is hard to tell that it is even in there. As with most tablets, the back does not come off at all. That means that there are plenty of ports, so you can hold everything. On the left hand side of the device you will find the SIM Card and MicroSD card slot. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 does not come with a MicroSD card out of the box, but it does have 16GB of internal storage. The right hand side is home to you power/sleep button, volume rocker, and a infer red transmitter. The transmitter is used for controlling a device like a TV or streaming player. The bottom of the device is home to your charging/syncing port and some speakers. The top of the device is home to the microphone and headphone jack. Above the screen you have the Verizon logo and 2 mega-pixel front facing camera. Below the screen all you will find is the Samsung logo, since the Tab 7.7 is running Android 3.2 Honeycomb you will not find any Android buttons here. On the back you will find a Samsung logo, Verizon logo, 4G LTE logo, and a 3 mega-pixel back camera with LED flash. The back of the device has a metal finish to it, which makes it a “premium” device and adds to the comfort of the device. You have a metal finish going around the sides of the device.

Display

This best feature of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 may be its display. It has a gorgeous 7.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, with a resolution of 1280 X 800. Yes, that is a 720pHD resolution. This is also Samsung’s first tablet in the United States to feature a Super AMOLED Plus display! Looking at any image on the Tab 7.7 is great, the display does not hurt your eyes and it just gives a beautiful image. Samsung has been known for having amazing displays on their products, and they are continuing the tradition with this device. This may be best the screen for a tablet on the market.

Verizon 4G LTE

Verizon 4G LTE’s Network is amazing and may just be the best 4G LTE Network in the country, it certainly is the largest. And as usually we ran a speediest using the “SPEEDTEST.Net” application. Keep in mind that depending on where you are you may not achieve the speeds that we are seeing or you may even get higher speeds. When running the test we has around 4 bars of 4G LTE service from Verizon

Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 4G LTE Speed Test

  • Ping 23 ms, Download 24.45 Mbps, Upload 19.77Mbps
  • Ping 11ms, Download 22.51 Mbps, Upload 24.73 Mbps
  • Ping 13ms, Download 22.66 Mbps, Upload 24.04Mbps
  • Ping 13ms, Download 24.39Mbps, Upload 22.37Mbps
  • Ping 15ms, Download 24.61Mbps, Upload 22.71Mbps

As you can see we had some crazy fast speeds on the Verizon Galaxy Tab 7.7 . Our highest download speed was 24.61Mbps, while our lowest speed was 22.51Mbps. Now, that really isn’t that slow, it is quite fast. Our highest upload speed was 24.74Mbps, while our lowest speed was 19.77Mbps. The upload speeds were very fast as well, at times the connection I received was faster than the internet at my house. This device is available with both a 2-year contract or without a contract. With a contract your data plans are 2GB for $30, 5GB for $50, and 10GB for $80 per month. If you go over it is $10.00 per GB of data. Without a contract data plans pricing differ for different areas, please contact your local Verizon Wireless store for more info.

Hardware

The Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 4G LTE has great hardware. Now, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is also super fast with access to Verizon’s 4G LTE Network and a1.4GHz Dual-Core Processor! The operating system runs very quick on this device! On the front of the device you have a 2 mega-pixel, it is great for self portraits and video chatting. On the back you have a 3 mega-pixel camera. The camera on the back is not the best, but it gets the job done. We have seen better on devices, but since it is the thinnest 4G LTE tablet on the market I guess they didn’t have enough space for a larger camera. For space you have 16GB on the inside and a microSd card slot that can hold up to a 32GB micro SD card. It has some good hardware inside, that make the tablet experience better.

Operating System

Now, it is time to discuss what the Verizon Galaxy Tab 7.7 4G LTE is running on. Android 3.2 Honeycomb with a Samsung TouchWiz User Interface is on this tab. No word on an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update yet, but it may be coming. One thing that may be confusing is the lock screen, it is both swipe to unlock a dragging it into the circle. Not sure if this is a glitch but, for users who are not accustomed to Android may find this difficult. Luckily if this is your first Android device, Verizon Wireless offers Device workshops. You Can Get More Info On The Workshops, By Clicking Here. This device does come with some pre-loaded applications like All Share, Amazon Kindle, Apps, Verizon Backup +Cloud, Blockbuster, Google App Suite, YouTube, DeadSpace, Email, Guided Tours, Mobile Hotspot, Music, My Verizon Mobile, Pen Memo, Photo Editor, Netflix, Quick Office, Samsung Apps, Setup Wizard, Smart Remote, Social Hub, Google Talk, The Daily, UNO, VZ Navigator, and more! The Daily is a tablet only newspaper, and it is currently only available on this Android device. It is an easy way to get the news but, keep in mind that you do have to pay for the subscription. Overall, the operating system is great.

Accesesories

Verizon Wireless and Samsung Mobile have made some great accessories available for the Tab 7.7 . From the Keyboard dock, to the HDMI dock, and many more. There is definitely one that will help you when using the device. I got to test out the Book Cover – Folio Case, which came in handy. It is a nice way to take the device out on the town and to protect it. It also works as stand which came in handy. It does not add too much thickness to the device at all and is similar to other Samsung products. It fits perfectly with the Galaxy Tab 7.7 for Verizon. It retails for $49.99, which is a bit expensive in my opinion. For more info on all of the accessories available for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Please Click Here.

Bottom Line

The Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a great device, the only issues that we found was the camera and the price. It is the thinnest 4G LTE Tablet on the market, has an awesome Super AMOLED Plus display, Verizon 4G LTE Speeds, and much more. It goes for $499.99 with a 2-year contract or $699.99 without a contract. If you want a great device with a 7-inch screen than the Tab 7.7 4G LTE is worth checking out. For More Info On The Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Please Click Here. We would like to thank both Verizon Wireless and Samsung Mobile for providing us with the “Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7”.
