Thanksgiving 2013 is right around the corner and Verizon Wireless is offering some great tips and applications that will make you holiday travels easier and safer! The United States Department of Transportation states that the number of long-distance trips increases by 54% during the 6-day Thanksgiving travel period. Travel by land and air has a big increase this time of year and your smart devices can help make this travel easier!

Verizon has compiled a great list of applications for this time of year. First of all, if you are flying you most certainly need to have away to track your flight. Newark, JFK and LaGuardia all have Flight Tracker applications and they are free to download. They can help you with finding food, learning where to park, weather conditions,  terminal maps, getting directions, where the airline lounges are, and more! Plus, the most important information like if your flight is on time, can be found in the apps. If you are driving, your best friend might become GasBuddy, it will help you find the cheapest gas prices in your area. Another great if you are hitting the roads, is the AAA Mobile application, this will provide you with maps, tips, and more!

Not only did Verizon release a great list of application for Thanksgiving, now we have some great tips as well. If you are traveling via NJTransit, you will be happy to know that they now offer electronic tickets.  Using the MyTix application you can buy tickets and you can even save your monthly passes on to your device! If you are driving through NJ, know that we offer a 511 number. It is a free phone and web service that consolidates traffic and transportation information into a one-stop resource for commuters and motorists. At Newark International Airport, Verizon Wireless was rated the highest performances in web and app, email, and network speeds!
