At Google I/O 2014 opening keynote, they announced Samsung’s first Android Wear device, the Gear Live. It was just announced that the device will be landing in the United States on July 7th 2014 and will retail for $199.99. It will be available for pre-order today from the Google Play Store and will be available for purchase at BestBuy soon on the 7th. The Gear Live will be compatible with any Android device running 4.3 or higher and provides what should be a seamless connection between the phone and the watch.
The Gear Live will be available in two color choices, Wine Red or Black, and will both feature interchangeable watch bands. The device it self looks quite similar to the Gear 2, which runs on Samsung’s own TIZEN operating system. Like the other Android Wear devices, the Gear Live is water resistant and meets IP67 specifications. For a display, you get a square 1.63-inch Super AMOLED screen, the only circular Android Wear device that has been announced is the Moto 360. It features 4GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, a 1.2GHz processor with 512MB of RAM, a heart rate monitor, a accelerometer, a gyroscope, a compass, and a 300mAh battery. With Android Wear, when you install or update an application your smartphone, if there is Android Wear variant of that application, it will do the same on the device. This means you can get updates, notifications, and more right on your wrist. With “OK Google”, you can talk to the device and use voice commands.
The Samsung Gear Live is available today, June 25th 2014, for pre-order on the Google Play Store. It will be available for purchase from BestBuy and the Google Play Store, on July 7th the day it officially comes out. The Gear Live will retail for $199.99 and can be pre-ordered today.
