Motorola had a hit on its hand with the Moto X, a phone that just felt really good in the hand, had good enough specs, really good battery life, unique software features, and was just an overall excellent device. Well, the new Moto X or rather the second generation of the Moto X is here and it is called, Moto X. It brings with it a larger display, but that same feeling of comfort is still there when your hold it in your hand. Let’s talk availability and when you can get your hands-on a Moto X, it will be available in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia later this month. In the United States it will be as low as just $99.99 with a 2-year contract and should be coming to AT&T and Verizon Wireless. You might remember that AT&T had the device first with Motomaker and without. The Moto X will go for $499.99 with no-contract and it will be unlocked.
The Moto X now features a 5.2-inch 1080pHD display, the original Moto X had a 720p. In fact it is 1080p OLED display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. It is being powered by a 2.5GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM. The base model will come with 16GB of internal storage, but via Motomaker you can 32GB of internal storage. And you also have a 2300mAh battery inside to give you what should be an even better battery life experience than on the original. The rear camera is now a 13 megapixel lens, with a flash that is a ring around the actual lens, plus on the front you get a 2 megapixel lens for selfies.
The device comes in at just 144 grams and is only 9.97 millimeters thick. The natural curvature of the device that we really liked on the original Moto X, is still here on the second generating variant. Motomaker is still here, you can still get the whole color lineup, but know you have wood and leather as an option for the back of your device. Plus, you can personalize it via a laser etched signature on the back. You still get the pure Android experience on the Moto X, it is running Android 4.4.2 and Motorola has promised an update to Android L when it drops. Do you remember “OK Google”, well now you can make your own custom prompt, like “What’s Up Moto X” or give it a real name. There is also built-in compatibility with Whats App, Facebook, YouTube, and many other applications. It will still learn from you, so in the car it will know to be hands free or at night it will know to be silent.
Overall, I am very excited to check out the new Moto X, it really builds off of the great foundation from the original and gives it a well deserved bump in specifications, features, and hardware. Stay tuned for our full review of the new Moto X, but in the meantime check out a gallery below.
