It’s been a strange couple of years for Nintendo, mostly due to supply constraints which lead to disappointed fans. And on the same day the company made the stupid decision to discontinue the NES Classic Edition, they have announced numbers of the Switch launch.
In total since the Nintendo Switch launched in March, it has sold overĀ 906,000 units. While this does make it the fastest selling console of all time, this is mainly due to the launch time. The Switch did not launch alongside other next generation consoles like the Xbox One or PlayStation 4, rather it had what Nintendo called it a “non-traditional” launch time.
The ironic portion of this sales announcement would be that they sold more copies of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Over 925,000 units of this title have been sold for the Switch alone, not counting the Wii U versions. And even with plenty of copies of Breath of the Wild available, there are not enough Nintendo Switch’s to go around as of yet.
