UNIQLO is bringing a very unique product to the United States and it will let you unleash your creativity. With UTme! you will be able to design your own T-shirts. It will launched in Japan earlier this year and is a first of its kind application, that allows you to use your smartphone or tablet to create your own shirt and then have it shipped to your door. While the application is pending launch in the US currently, you will be able to visit Faneuil Hall in Boston and Beverly Center in Los Angeles UNIQLO Pop-Up stores on the 22nd and 31st of July to create your own shirt. As they will have tablets on-site that will have the application on them.

The UTme! is quite simple, you first choose the design method, which could be photography, typography, or paint. After you design it, you can add an effect to it, like a glitch or a mosaic style. If you make the T-shirt on an in-store tablet, you can pick it up the same day from that store, otherwise it can be shipped to you. The base cost is $22.99 and the base shirt is a white T-shirt.

UNIQLO Brings UTme! Program for Customized T-shirts to Pop-Up Stores in LA and Boston

NEW YORK / LOS ANGELES / BOSTON, July 21, 2014 UNIQLO, the global clothing retailer, today announced US customers will have the chance to design their own T-shirts using UTme! – the newest interactive UNIQLO App – at Pop-Up stores opening in Los Angeles and Boston this summer.

Launched in Japan earlier this year, the UTme! App allows customers to create and purchase their own unique T-shirts anytime, anywhere using a smartphone or tablet. While the App is pending launch in the US, visitors to the recently opened UNIQLO Pop-Up store at South Coast Plaza and to Pop-Up stores opening at Faneuil Hall in Boston and Beverly Center in Los Angeles on July 22 and July 31 respectively, will have an exclusive opportunity to create their own T- shirts using on-site tablets with the App specially installed.

The UTme! App was developed in response to customers’ desire to create their own original T-shirt designs, and has received widespread popularity in Japan. The existing UT (UNIQLO graphic T-shirt) 2014 Spring Summer collection, from UT’s Creative Director NIGO, offers around 35 themes in more than 1,200 colors and patterns, and features a line in collaboration with Pharrell Williams called “i am OTHER”.

How it works:

Customers select a design method (paint, typography or photo), and an effect (splash, glitch or mosaic), then shake the tablet for the final product to come together. T-shirts designed on tablets in-store can be picked up the same day, and will cost $22.90. The base T-shirt color will be available in white in order to act as a canvas for original designs.

“UTme! takes our UT line of T-shirts to the next level,” said Larry Meyer, CEO of UNIQLO USA. “We’re very excited to provide the opportunity to custom design your clothing. UNIQLO UT is about self-expression, and this type of personalization is the ultimate form of creativity.”

Prior to creating their design, customers must agree to stay within the design parameters that are set in the UTme! manual. This manual lists what is appropriate/not appropriate to print on the T-shirts. All customers must sign a consent form that gives UNIQLO UTme! access to their design.
