Samsung is kicking off it’s home entertainment announcements for the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show. Earlier this week SmartThings announced that some of Samsung’s 2016 televisions would act as hubs for the connected home, today we learn more about the smart features of the upcoming 2016 TV lineup. Samsung has just announced there new Smart TV user experience which has a new Smart Hub and Smart Control remote.
The new Smart Hub moves away from multiple content sources and devices, and into one integrated platform. From with in one interface you will now be able to go and back and forth between broadcast content, OTT content, and connected devices like Blu-ray players or game consoles. They are eliminating the barriers between different sources and devices, you will be able to search through popular titles across these devices and sources. This is similar to the cross-platform Siri, voice search, on the new fourth generation Apple TV. You will also be able to customize your experience by arranging your favorite content and entertainment choices right on the home screen.
Not only do we have a new Smart Hub, but Samsung has also announced the new Smart Control remote. This will act as the one tool to control your entire home entertainment system. No longer will you have to set up multiple remotes and no longer will you lose a few of them between your couch cushions. The Smart Control remote is designed to put multiple remotes into one single remote, kind of like a universal remote.
Except, that this remote is built upon the Tizen platform and will give quicker and streamlined access to entertainment, as it features automatic source recognition. Meaning that it will be able to recognize set-top boxes, game consoles, video game consoles, OTT boxes, and other connected devices.
The new Smart Hub and Smart Control remote were developed in part at the Samsung Customer Experience Lab in Silicon Valley, showing that the company wants to make sure these new features will come in handy with customers. I for one am very excited about this new Smart Control remote as it will let you finally have one remote or at least it hopes to do this, thanks to the automatic source recognition.
