myFC’s JAQ is the world’s smallest fuel cell charger for smartphones, it is both portable and powerful. The company behind it, is based out of Sweden and specializes in fuel cell technologies. At the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show they are showing off the final version of JAQ, which has been in development for quite some time. It is not your typical charger, for instance you don’t recharge it through a plug-in the wall. Using a single-use and recyclable PowerCard which has water and salt inside, you place this card into the JAQ. When placed into the unit itself, a chemical reaction occurs and this in turn will power your device.
The water and salt inside the PowerCard reacts when inside JAQ and produces hydrogen. This in turn delivers instant power to the PowerCard, providing you 1800mAh. You can then charge your smartphone using the USB port on the PowerCard and it should charge your device for a full charge. This 1800mAh power should fully charge your iPhone 6s or Samsung Galaxy S 6, it is a solid battery.
JAQ is a neat product as it cuts your reliance to the electric grid, in countries that are under developed this could be a key product. When going on long trips or hikes bringing the JAQ and several PowerCard’s along with you can ensure power to your devices. As of right now myFC is offering the JAQ through a pre-booking form, but this is just for Sweden right now. I am hoping to see the JAQ come to the United States and other countries later in 2016.
