You’ve undoubtedly heard of Apple and chances are you have at least used Shazam once. It is the popular music-identifying service that premiered as an app for the iPhone from the very beginning. And before that, you would text Shazam with a brief snippet of the song, and they would text you back the artist and title. But today, Shazam is looking towards the future as Apple has confirmed its acquisition of the company.

In typical Apple fashion not much is known, and not much is being said about the acquisition but they have confirmed it and provided us with this comment:

“We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be joining Apple. Since the launch of the App Store, Shazam has consistently ranked as one of the most popular apps for iOS. Today, it’s used by hundreds of millions of people around the world, across multiple platforms. Apple Music and Shazam are a natural fit, sharing a passion for music discovery and delivering great music experiences to our users. We have exciting plans in store, and we look forward to combining with Shazam upon approval of today’s agreement.”

It would seem that there will be some upcoming integration between Apple Music and Shazam, which could give the streaming service a significant edge over competitors. I am eager to see what kind of combining the teams at Apple and Shazam are developing and hope to see them soon.
