Crayola has just revealed their new Crayon Melter, which does exactly what it sounds like – the large safe-heating pen melts Crayons so you can mix colors and layer melted wax for drawings that pop off the page. Inspired by the many DIY projects involving melted Crayon wax, the Crayon Melter makes it even easier to use Crayon’s bright colors in even more creative ways.
The ultra-safe, kid-friendly melter pen is equipped with a Crayon slot that holds one full length of a Crayon, but multiple Crayons can be broken into pieces and added to the slot for color mixing. The hole in the back is kid-safe to prevent little fingers from getting caught, and a low-heat tip prevents burns while still allowing you to draw seamlessly with the melted wax.
We got to test this product at Toy Fair, and it doesn’t disappoint. The pen glides smoothly across the page, and the wax is easy to draw with. It can be used for tracing drawings with an additional layer of color-popping wax, or it can be used to add to flat drawings for extra flair. With patience and skill, you could even use it to make three-dimensional wax drawings and creations with many layers of color. This innovation brings coloring off the page, allowing a new level of creativity that’s totally safe and simple.
The Crayon Melter will be available later this year for a retail price of $24.99.
