To start off, you may have noticed that NJTechReviews does not provide a lot of coverage on Apple, but our friends over at DODOcase have a very unique accessory for the iPad Mini and we felt the need to showcase it. We have seen and tested out first hand, many of DODOcase’s great products, from there classic book like cases to their durable sleeves. But as a journalist, you constantly have the urge to write or get your thoughts down some how some way, but nothing really compares to the feel of using a pen or pencil and writing on real paper or parchment. The Folio for iPad Mini is not your regular old case, but it does a great thing by combining the latest technology with the classic tools that we are accustomed too.
For starters, you get the build quality that DODOcase has become known for. It is an American made product, which really hits the spot when you hear it and makes you feel really good when you buy it. You know you are supporting an American company and for the fact, a company that makes some really nice products. Professional, is the word that comes to mind when you first unbox the the Folio, it looks like something that a business man or a student could use, but either way they are styling the right way. The two ends of the case are made from wood and are draped in a black canvas. It doesn’t slip out of your hands, as the canvas is naturally textured, providing you with some grip. Then you get to the spine of the case and in this case it is an aged leather, that truly looks classic. It comes weathered which adds a well loved feeling, as if it has been passed down. Like the DODOcase Classic, you get the elastic band to keep the case together, it comes in the same canvas color of the two book ends. Keeping with the tradition and classic look of the product, you get a very subtle DODOcase logo on the back.
Choosing between a pen or a stylus used to take some thinking and deciding. As if you have your tablet and stylus, it will be an ordeal to bring a whole notebook or notepad with a writing instrument. With the Folio for iPad Mini case, the decision is much easier. When you open the case up you will notice on the leather spine, which by the way looks just as good on the inside, a slot that can be used for a pen or stylus and having this built-inside is a very nice feature. To the left you have the bamboo tray for the iPad Mini and on the right hand side you have the notepad, in a reporter style setup. Underneath the notepad you will find two leather slots, both featuring the aged leather with on point stitching. If you really wanted to you could fit a stylus in one of these slots, but it could be used to keep a wallet sized photograph or business cards. If you plan on taking photos with the iPad Mini, the Folio case stills allows for this as there a camera hole built-in.
This about rounds of the story of the Folio for iPad Mini, it truly does bend time together. Helping to bend the time together, is the craftsmanship. This is what DODOcase is known for, there are company based out of San Fransisco that is making quality products the old fashioned way. My favorite part of the design has to be the aged leather, it creates the feeling that this case has been passed down in your family or that while it is worn in, there is plenty of life left in it. My absolute favorite thing about the Folio is how it gives you the best of both worlds; technology when you need it and classic writing material when you want it. While pen and paper days might have been numbered, DODOcase is helping to keep it alive by giving you the perfect union. The DODOcase Folio for iPad Mini is available now and retails for $124.95.
