Announced just minutes ago at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, was The Grammy Creators Alliance. A new coalition that is made up of artists, performers, and songwriters who are advocating for pro-creator legislation. They want to make sure the future of music is as powerful as it is today. They will be advocating for pro-creator legislation, specifically issues that affect the music landscape. A key issue that they have shined a light is fair pay for all creators on all platforms, this was an issue that Taylor Swift brought to the center of attention last year. You might remember that Taylor Swift removed her entire catalogue from Spotify, over the issue of fair pay. The Grammy Creators Alliance wants to ensure that artists get fair royalty rights across these platforms, as well.
Right now, Congress is currently reviewing and analyzing legislation about our nation’s copyright laws, which directly affects the music landscape. Many artists like Adam Levine, Alicia Keys, deadmau5, Dr. Luke, Jennifer Hudson, Jimmy Jam, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Lady Antebellum, Ryan Tedder, and Steven Tyler have joined the Creators Alliance. It will be very interesting to see what type of difference the Grammy Creators Alliance will make. You can visit http://www.grammy.com/Alliance for more information on the Grammy Creators Alliance.
