Buick is a classic car company, but they are giving a glimpse into the, hopefully close, future. Late last year we gave you the full review on the 2015 Buick Regal and I fell back in love with the brand. But, I just fell in love again with the company’s latest creation. Introducing the Buick Avista, unfortunately this is not a production vehicle, but instead a concept car and a look at the future. The Avista combines a great design with the heritage of Buick into a turbocharged 2+2 coupe.
The Avista is a concept car and it embodies the soul of Buick, it pushes the brand further by keeping the classic elements in tow. It has uninterrupted lines that go from the front to the rear of the vehicle. To enhance a flowing design the B-pillars between the doors and rear side windows have been eliminated. It really is stunning and dare I saw jaw dropping from every angle.
From the technology angle, it has the future of what Buick’s IntelliLink will look like, plus it has 3D printed doors and seat trimming. IntelliLink combines touchscreen controls across a widescreen instrument panel. The center console also is a touchscreen that goes from the front cabin into the rear cabin.
For performance, the Avista has a twin-turbocharged 3.0L V-6 engine with fuel-saving Active Fuel Management and Stop/Start technology for power efficiency. The engine is backed by a an eight-speed automatic transmission and Magnetic Ride Control that delivers precision control while driving.
Lastly and what might be the best part, is the Avista’s Blue foundation color which is paired with Mist Gray leather seating inserts, console trim and door trim. The design is top-notch and throughout the cabin you will find carbon fiber and aluminum accents.
Buick is making awesome progress towards the future and if all goes well, the Avista will hopefully become a reality soon. In the meantime it is a concept car and will be on hand at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. And with luck, for myself and the rest of us on the East Coast, it will be brought to the New York International Auto Show.
