At Springsteen’s closing night of the first leg of The River Tour he stated that this would be the last time they are playing the album in full. But this caused some confusion, as it is The River Tour 2016 after all. It was cleared up by several band members on Twitter, who stated that they would still play songs from the album but the set list would be opening up. Yesterday, Springsteen announced that The River Tour would be coming back to the United States for an eight show run. These upcoming shows, which kick off in August, will not feature the full album every night as well.
For the upcoming shows in the United States, it will be selections from The River as well as other classics. This means we might get to hear some outtakes which were released last year in The Ties That Bind: The River Collection box set. The set will be a lot less static, which is more line with previous tours.
This new leg of The River Tour 2016 kicks off August 23rd at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford NJ and wraps up September 14th at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. You can see a full list of states for the upcoming leg below.
