Apple unveils Apple Watch Series 2

Apple's second generation Apple Watch is here and is bringing along some upgrades.


Tim Cook is on stage at the Apple Event and just welcomed Jeff Williams on stage. They are quickly going through WatchOS 3, specifically, updates to messages and watch faces. Apple has just unveiled Apple Watch Series 2 which has a slightly new build.


It is now swim proof; Meaning you can wear while surfing or even in the shower. It is rated water resistant for up to 50 meters. The team at Apple had to close all the entry points, but the speaker system was also redesigned. It will eject the water lodged in the speaker after a workout or swim.

The Apple Watch Series 2 features the S2, a system in a package, that contains a 50% faster dual-core processor and a new GPU. It has a 2nd generation display that is 2X brighter then display, in fact, it is 1000 nits.

GPS is now built-in, and it will send to the satellite immediately, even better the Activity app will be updated to show a map of where you have gone. Developers will be able to take advantage of the built-in GPS functionality as well.


The Apple Watch Series 2 will still come in aluminium and stainless steel, but also in a new Ceramic build. Apple is partnering with Hermes again for Series 2. Additionally, for Series 2, Apple is partnering with Nike.

For Series 2, Apple is partnering with Nike. Introducing Apple Watch Nike +, that features a special band and was designed for runners.

Watch Series 2 will start at $369 and the original Apple Watch will by staying on as well. However, the original model will get an updated processor.
