It creates a lip above the display along with wrapping around the bottom. It does have slots for the speakers and the lightning port.
In addition to a lip on the front that protects the display, the inside has a microfiber coating to prevent the case from scratching your iPhone. The color and feel of the leather will change over time, and this will create a certain level of uniqueness for each case.
