The Times Square Ball is a sight to behold every year, especially when you can be next to it. However, a crucial part of what makes it a sight are the Waterford Crystals. The over 12,000-pound ball has 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles that range in length from 4 3/4 inches to 5 3/4 inches per side. For 2017, Waterford has added 288 new Crystals which introduce Gift of Serenity design to the ball.

Each year Waterford introduces a new design that can bring with it hope and try to inspire the revelers in Times Square and the millions around the world watching. The Gift of Serenity is the next installment in the Greatest Gifts collection. The 288 Gift of Serenity Waterford Crystals features butterfly-like patterns. The other 2,4000 Waterford Crystals are the Gift of Kindness, Gift of Wonder, Gift of Fortitude, and the Gift of Imagination collections.

All of the Waterford Crystals on the Times Square Ball are bolted to 672 LED modules which are connected to the aluminum frame of the ball. These LED modules make up the more than 13,000 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs that light up the Waterford Crystals and then, in turn, creating the beautiful illuminations on the ball. Be sure to watch the Waterford Crystals in all their glory on the Times Square Ball when it drops at 12:00 AM on Friday, January 1st to over a million revelers in Times Square!
