Earlier today, April 29th 2014, the Acer Iconia One 7 was announced at Acer’s A Touch More Connected Event, which turned out to be their back to school lineup announcement event. They showed off new laptops, all in ones, 4-in-1, sneak peaks of smartphones, wearables, and chrome books. We also saw a new tablet, the Iconia One 7. We were lucky enough to leave the event with one and we just unboxed it, you can see the video below.

The Iconia One 7 offers a wide array of choices when it comes to design. It is available in seven nice colors, these being black, white, pink, blue, yellow, and green. Our unit that we have in-house is the black variant, but at the launch event we got to check out some of the other colors. The back feels very nice and has textured design, which not only adds to the design, but provides a good grip. It comes in at just 8.95 millimeters thick and weighs only 330 grams.

One of the biggest features of the device is the 7-inch IPS HD display that has a resolution of 1280 X 800. Through our testing so far, it performs pretty well, it has solid viewing angles and produce colors accurately most of the time. Out of the box you are running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with a Acer user interface. An Acer representative confirmed to me at the event today, that it will be eventually getting the upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat. Out of the box there are some pre-loaded applications including Acer Cloud, Acer Store, Amazon app suite, and a few others.

For storage you can get either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage depending on the model you choose, our unit features 16GB of internal storage. On the right hand side of the device is a micro SD card slot, which will let you expand your storage. It is powered by a 1.6Ghz dual core processor by Intel and it performs okay, during my early testing I noticed it could slow down a little bit when running applications. You have to remember for the price point, we aren’t expecting a quad-core processor in this device. The Acer Iconia One 7 will be launching in the US by the end of June, most likely in May from what I am hearing, and it will start at $129.99. Stay tuned for the full review of the Acer Iconia One 7 on NJTechReviews!
