Withings has products across several categories, most of them in the health or tracking sphere. But today they are kicking off the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show by announcing the Withings Thermo, a connected temporal thermometer. Because it is a temporal thermometer and not the kind that you have to stick under your tongue, it can be used by the entire family.
The Thermo measures your temperature using the temporal artery on the side of the head and this provides one of the most accessible images of body temperature. At the same time it is a safe, comfortable, and sanitary process when measuring it. The technology in how it measures is quite neat; Thermo uses HotSpot Sensor technology which uses an array of 16 independent inferred sensors that find and measure the amount of heat being emitted. In fact the sensors take 4,000 measurement in 2 seconds and from there it determines the hottest point.
Even better, the Thermo is a WiFi connected thermometer and it will send its temperature readings over WiFi or Bluetooth to a dedicated mobile application on your smartphone. Within the mobile application you will be able have multiple users and manage fever episodes, along with temperature readings for each user. You can also log symptoms, take notes, and add in any medicines administered to each temperature reading. It can also remind the user via notifications when it is time to take a temperature again. The data can also easily be exported and shared with a physician.
The Thermo does not have a lithium battery inside, it is powered by two AAA size batteries and it should power the device for up to two years. The device itself is quite simple to use, simply place the device on the forehead click the button and a result will appear instantly. The Thermo will vibrate to let you know when the measurement has been made and the result will be displayed in either Fahrenheit or Celsius on a color coded LED display; green for normal, orange for moderate, and red for elevated temperature levels.
The Withings Thermo will be available in Quarter 1 of 2016 and will have manufactured suggested retail price of $99.995, along with a free dedicated app in the Google Play Store and the App Store.
