Move over Frozen and Big Hero 6—Disney’s got a new hit, and it has broken box office records! In its opening weekend, Zootopia grossed over $73.7 million domestically and $232 million globally, becoming the highest opening weekend earner for the company’s animation unit.

However, this animated adventure isn’t just excelling in the Box Office. It currently has a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is groundbreaking for the Animation studio, who is proving that they don’t need Pixar to make memorable, engaging, and successful films. Some critics are even saying that we are amidst a “New Disney Renaissance,” the previous renaissance having occurred in the 1990s.

The film, which features such stars as Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, and Tommy Chong chronicles the unlikely companionship between a rabbit police officer and a red fox con artist as they attempt to solve a mysterious case occurring in their “mammal metropolis.”

Zootopia is definitely not just for kids. Although younger viewers will love its elegant graphics and talking animals, adults will appreciate its nuanced and clever writing, which combines drama and adventure. The film’s plot contains messages about relevant issues in society, such as prejudice and corruption.

Things are looking good for Disney’s 55th animated feature. If you want to see it for yourself, Zootopia is in theaters now.
