Twitter recently secured the rights to stream NFL games for quite a large sum. Yesterday, The New York Times reported that with this deal official the social network is now working on an Apple TV app. Twitter is not going about this the usual way– Talks have begun with Apple to work on the application.
This would be a huge audience for Twitter to reach, plus it would offer viewers another way to watch NFL’s Thursday games digitally. Overall, the NFL deal was a big win for Twitter, I mean they beat out Facebook for the offer. Since this deal Twitter has worked with other sports and even CBS to stream the RNC and DNC. Twitter has vocal users and integrating that into the content or on the side can be seen as a benefit.
While the social network has gone through a unique period, streaming is a good to be a part of. With many companies trying to get in, so Twitter has a chance here. It will be interesting to see if Twitter can launch the app before the regular season kicks off.
