GE Lighting is kicking off the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show festivities a bit early, but they are starting things off with some neat new products. Even with their earlier products, they have uniquely entered the smart home sector. With C by GE, there was the emphasis on wellness, with bulbs design for day and night uses.
But at CES 2018, GE Lighting has a Smart Wall Switch and Smart Ceiling Fixtures. The Smart Wall Switch reminds of Wink’s Relay, which was a smart wall switch that included a touchscreen running a very customized version of Android. GE Lighting’s approach is a voice-compatible smart switch that allows you to do typical lighting tasks. The Wall Switch encompasses many sensors including humidity and temperature ones.
The Smart Ceiling Fixtures are a unique product and open up an exciting category. No exact pricing or availability is here yet, but they will be offering both flush mount, and recessed can option at launch. These fixtures go along with the voice control theme but also pack a speaker which allows you to listen to music and control other smart devices. But you can also say voice commands to control the lighting in your house.
Both the Smart Wall Switch and Ceiling Fixture represent a significant expansion of GE Lighting into the Smart Home sector. And it is fantastic to see continued investment in this field, especially in ways that rethink the current product offerings. GE Lighting’s Smart Wall Switch and Ceiling Fixture will be launching this year, and I can’t wait to get my hands on them.
