Fossil Group, a leader in the fashion industry with a long heritage, has just announced that they will be collaborating with Google and Intel to create connected accessories. Differing from the current wearables on the market today, these will be unique accessories that connect customers with both the information and the brands they desire. Fossil Group is hoping to deliver this by creating branded application that will work on any device. Greg McKelvey, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer at Fossil Group, will be speaking at The Wearables Revolution panel on Wednesday, January 7th at CES 2015.
Greg McKelvey has said that the current main challenges with the wearables market are with the aesthetics and the overall brand experience. He stresses that right now the technology brands are brining fashion to technology, but with a brand like Fossil Group they want to bring technology to fashion customers. And they want to do it in a way that will accessorize their connected life, not necessarily take it over, and let it create new experiences between the brands and the consumer. The end goal is too “make ‘tech on the wrist’ not just culturally acceptable, but also outright desirable“, I think Fossil Group teaming up with Google and Intel is great. It will help the two big brands, shift into the right direction to make this a possibility and then eventually a reality.
Fossil Group is planning to launch several connected accessory products that include jewelry and watches with and without digital displays. They will all share a common software platform, which will help to create an identity for the brand, plus it will allow the customer to purchase multiple devices across either the same or a different brand. It will be a very interesting panel to check out on Wednesday January 7th, as Greg McKelvey will surely have a lot to say. We will keep you updated with Fossil Group’s connected accessories.
