Netflix did something amazing during their 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, they turned on service in over 130 countries. This brings the total count to over 190 countries, and while China is still not one of them, there is hope. But more than hope is that Netflix is now a global brand capable of offering their service to millions of users.

As Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix, put it the birth of a global internet TV network is happening. The landscape is very different then what is what even a few years ago. No longer do you have to wait for the red envelope to arrive in the mail, pretty much no matter where you are you can log in and start watching your favorite TV shows and movies.

They launched over 100 countries at once, including India, Russia, and South Korea. And while they didn’t launch in China this time, Netflix is trying to figure out how they can offer service there. Netflix is on track to release more then31 new and returning original series in 2016, this includes two dozen original feature films and documentaries, stand-up specials, and 30 original kid series.

 

In addition to launching in many more countries, Netflix is now available in 17 languages. Support for Arabic, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese were added today.
