The successor to the Gear S2 smartwatch is here; Samsung has introduced the Gear S3. In fact, there are two models, the more rugged Gear S3 Frontier and the sleek Gear S3 Classic. Design and connectivity are the key differences between these models.

Samsung has packed LTE connectivity inside the Gear S3 Frontier which allows the device to be used without being connected to a smartphone. The Gear S3 Classic only has Bluetooth which means it will need to be paired with a smartphone to get all the features.

The Frontier variant is more rugged and comes in slightly heavier at 62 grams, compared to the Classic at 52 grams. Both of these smartwatches are running Samsung’s Tizen operating system and are powered by a 1.0GHz dual-core processor. There is a 380mAh battery inside, and the always-on display mode can now use all the colors it has to offer.

A large 1.3” Circular Super AMOLED is on the Gear S3, and it has 278 pixels per inch with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass SR+. Samsung Pay is now on board as well which means you can pay practically anywhere with the Gear S3.

Both the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic should be shipping in the fourth quarter of 2016. Pricing for both models will be announced closer to their respective release dates.
