Zepp Labs specializes in digital training devices for sports, up until now they have sold their own products. In that they sell a sensor that can be placed on a baseball bat and collect data. At the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show they have bog news as they are working with sports equipment brands to integrate hardware, software, and cloud-based data collection directly into the equipment. Zepp is showing off an integrated sensor solution for sports equipment like racquets, bats, and more.
While they don’t have a ready to go product to show off just yet, they are working with companies and several organizational bodies across professional and recreational sports. There end goal is to set up a wave of open source and industry standard sensor solutions for sports equipment.
Technology and sports were bound to cross at some point, there are many general products to track steps and calories burned. But Zepp Labs have proved there is market, as they have sold thousands of sensors and have over 500,000 active users using there sensors. The next step here to have a place in the equipment for these sensors, a truly integrated package. The first step in reaching this end goal was the development of Smart Bat solution, which can be seen above. Zepp is hoping that this design will get adopted by industry leaders and have they have been working with several large bat manufacturers.
While they are only showing off a prototype of the Smart Bat at the 2016 CES, this is just the first in line of these integrated sensor solution sports equipment.
