Millions of women struggle to conceive due to fertility issues. Mira is dropping a new fertility monitoring system, Mira Fertility, which is set to be available in the second quarter of 2018. Mira Fertility is a three-part system: a Mira Fertility Wand to analyze urine samples, a handheld device called the Mira Analyzer, and a smartphone app. The Fertility Wand is used to collect a urine sample from the user to detect Luteinizing Hormone (LH), which varies throughout the monthly hormone cycle and peaks just before ovulation. The Fertility Wand is disposable, so the user will require 15 to 20 wands per ovulation cycle to create an effective hormonal calendar. The Mira Analyzer analyzes the sample collected by the Fertility Wand using a fluorescent immunoassay, which quantifies the amount of LH in the urine sample. The app provides a calendar for the user to visualize their hormonal cycle and log information regarding their menstrual patterns as well.

While LH detection isn’t new tech in terms of fertility monitoring, the design offers improved tech with its complex ovulation tracking algorithm that learns from the user’s past hormone patterns. Previous ovulation trackers offer limited angles of insight The app logs LH levels in a calendar to monitor the user’s quantitative hormone levels, which allows it to predict when ovulation will occur. On top of that, Mira Fertility also allows the user to log their menstrual cycle and other relevant data to personalize further their experience with the app, which allows the app’s algorithm to calculate highly specific ovulation dates and recommendations for successful conception. The app helpfully walks couples through their fertility options, providing a useful interface for couples to learn about conception and create a plan to achieve the best possible outcome.

By combining hormonal and menstrual pattern tracking with a learning algorithm, Mira Fertility shapes the app’s capabilities to the individual rather than providing static facts based only on one or two pieces of information. This will enable users to have deeper insights about their own biology and will better be able to predict the best possible times to attempt to conceive. Mira Fertility is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2018, and information about pre-sales and availability can be found at miracare.com.
